Snow and a Skein

Snow in NYC

It’s official, we just broke the record for snowiest month in NYC! It’s been an insane snow-driven month and as such it is hard to get pictures lately without snow coming into them one way or another. So I decided to share with you all some pictures that I took walking around different parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan and at different times of day too.

This is the cutest snow cat ever!

Although we are getting a little sick of all this snow, I have to say that it does make the city look very pretty! Until you walk into a puddle of slush that is 6″ deep and you find out that your snow boots have sprung a leak just as the wet and cold start seeping in… ugh!

On one of these cold days hubby and I had a dinner and a movie date and by total luck found the Shake Shack open! They have our all-time favorite burgers (seriously, the best burgers I have EVER had) and we like to go there pretty often. Usually, though, we go to one of their other locations in the winter as their original location is outdoor and closes for the cold. We were going to go elsewhere when we saw that they decided to put out heat lamps this winter and stay open. Awesome decision because that meant we could have yummy burgers AND stay nice and warm too. πŸ™‚

Mmmmm, burgers!

It was nice to see that even the huge amount of snow we’ve been getting couldn’t stop us from having a yummy dinner like this. πŸ˜€

And on a more knitting-related note, I was the lucky recipient of a skein of Malabrigo Rios in the color Azules from Andrea of Life on Laffer! I’m very excited to have won and can’t wait to make something with it… I’m thinking a hat. And I have one in the works, too, of my own design… so it might be a prototype! πŸ˜€

Yay! Thanks again, Andrea!

Folha Luz - FINISHED

I decided to enter the Fiberphile Design Contest because I’ve always wanted to try my hand at designing something and figured this was the best time to try! After a TON of work with amazing test knitters who helped me out a lot, I am almost ready to publish! Probably by tomorrow or the day after, so stay tuned and I will share more details with you very soon. For now I’ll leave you with another picture of the new shawlette, Folha Luz.

Happy 2nd Blogiversary Photo.Knit.Dog!

Yes, I am late on my Blogiversary post. I’m not really happy about it, but what can you do? Life catches up with you sometimes and the blog was placed on the back burner for the past few days. That being said, I’m very excited to say that Photo.Knit.Dog is two years old! Woohoo! It has been an amazing experience sharing my life with you all and I’m so happy to have made friends through here and to read your own blogs as well. I definitely wouldn’t be able to keep writing if it wasn’t for everyone who comes here, reads, and leaves comments. You all are the best! πŸ˜€

So what would be a Blogiversary post without a Giveaway? I’m not sure as I love Giveaways and I love sharing my yarn goodies with you readers! I think I may have a problem with this as I always tend to go overboard on the amount of goodies, LOL. But I’m sure that doesn’t bother any of you one bit, no? πŸ˜‰

For this Blogiversary Giveaway there will be ten winners of ten gorgeous yarns! Don’t believe me? Take a look:

How do you enter to win? Well, as much as I adore all the yarns I have (and I have a ton!) I’m always on the lookout for new indie dyers that I may not have heard of before. With that in mind, leave me a comment by Thursday, November 18th, 11:59pm EDT with the name of an indie dyer that you love and I will use a random number generator to pick 10 winners from the bunch! Make sure to also put in your top 3 wanted skeins from the Giveaway in order of preference. Just like that your name will be entered in the contest. It’s that easy!

Oh and this contest is open to any and everyone who wants to join (no matter where in the world you live). The skein might take a while to get to you if you’re far away from NYC (yes, I will probably use cheap-o shipping) but I’ll ship out to those of you outside of North America, so comment away!

In addition, if you want more chances to win, blog it, Facebook it or Tweet it and come back here and tell me you did so with a link to your post, tweet, etc. An extra chance for each one of those (leave a separate comment for each if you do it on different places) and your odds are looking pretty good, I’d say!

Good luck to everyone! πŸ˜€

Winners!!! and Dog Q&A

After randomly picking the winners and contacting all of them, I thought it would take a few days to hear back from everyone. Wrong! Everyone was so excited to have won that I received responses from all six winners within 10 hours of sending the email. I love it when people are as excited as I am so I already had the yarn out the door and on its way to the new owners by the next day. I hope it all arrived safe and sound and congrats to all the winners! Here’s the list:

1st – Katie – Fiberphile Super Squish Sock in Pacifica AND the Interweave Knits Fall 2009 magazine
2nd – Rachelle – Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Scarlet
3rd – Yarn Dancer – Sundara FSM in Cactus Flower
4th – Candance – Zen Yarn Garden in Lemon Drop
5th – Tamsin – Liberty’s Yarn Jabbersocky in Lucy
6th – Ikkinlala (Nicole) – Colinette Jitterbug in Marble

I hope you all enjoy the yarn and that you get it soon! πŸ™‚

I also chose some of the questions asked to answer here. I’ll do some today and some later so we can space them out a bit, so if I didn’t answer your question today, don’t worry, I’ll do it soon! πŸ™‚

Kubrick and Hitchcock would like to first say that they aren’t sure if I was able to translate for them perfectly when needed, but I promise I did try my best! Woof!

Question: What breed of dogs are Kubrick and Hitchcock?

Kubrick and Hitchcock are Havanese! And no that is *not* a designer breed… Havanese originally hail from Cuba (get it Havana, Cuba = Havanese) and they are actually the national dog of Cuba. We’ve seen quite a few Cuban-inspired named Havs but we went the American route with the boys’ names… I mean they were born and raised here! πŸ˜‰

Question: What are their favorite toys?

Kubrick has two toys that are his favorites, though they are both balls – he loves playing with balls! – one of them is his cow ball. He knows it by name and will search for it in the toy box if you ask him to find it! In the picture below, you can see him having a Stare Off with the cow… I still haven’t figured out who won, though!

Dog vs. Cow: Stare Off!

The second is his soccer ball. Kubrick goes crazy for it, but Daddy doesn’t much enjoy hearing him squeak it as loud as he can (which Kubrick will do right in the middle of movies) so he only gets it when we can stand it. It is, however, one of his all-time favorite toys… here he is showing his brother the ball when Hitchcock first came to live with us!

Doting brother

Hitchcock’s favorite toy is a little mouse. No squeaker, nothing special about it, but he does love that thing! He tosses it up in the air and then catches it when it comes down – I think he tells himself the mouse is trying to get away from him or something. πŸ˜‰ The funny part is he got the thing at the vet’s office last Christmas and he really hates going to see the vet… even if his favorite toy came from there!

Hitch's mouse

Question: What’s your favorite outdoor activity in the winter?

Kubrick’s favorite activity any time is chasing and playing with doggy friends. He’ll do that with or without snow on the ground! πŸ˜‰

Snowday Fun

Apart from playing with his brother, Hitchcock’s favorite activity is eating snow. He just doesn’t like to admit it!

Snowday Fun

Question: Who’s pack leader?

Definitely Kubrick. Hitchcock listens to whatever his brother has to say… or else!

Ack! Help!

But Hitch knows that means he can count on his big brother to protect him when he’s feeling scared.

Safety Zone

Question: How do you guys like going to the bathroom outside & up so high?

Well I have to admit they were very nervous at first, but once Kubrick did it, Hitchcock had no problems following suit. They love hanging out out there now! It’s one of their favorite spots. πŸ˜€

Question: How do you not chew up all the shoes in the house??

Kubrick never had any interest in shoes, but Hitchcock says it was very hard because mommy was so mean to him whenever he tried to do it… he’d be happily chewing and then I’d swoop down with a toy or a chew (like Merrick Flossies) and give that to him instead saying good boy. Hitchcock said that wasn’t nice of me but now he knows that he is allowed to chew on his toys and on yummy Flossies but is NOT allowed to chew on anything else in the house. Don’t tell him I said so, but I think he’s quite happy with the outcome. πŸ˜‰
